Continually exploring her Filipino-Australian identity, Sydney-based Victoria Garcia creates detailed narratives and immersive environments that explore questions of culture, spirituality and our connection to nature. Growing up in Australia, Garcia had a unique childhood immersed in the Australian bushland, interspersed with numerous trips returning to the Philippines. As a result of these background and formative experiences, she feels an affinity indigenous and nomadic cultures and is strongly drawn to nature, where she finds personal solace, a sense of identity and spirituality. She is currently working on an illustration and textiles collection featuring native flora and fauna of the Philippines.
With a strong background in design and visual art, Victoria works across fashion textiles, homewares and costume for film. Victoria has been commissioned by major brands and companies including Anthropologie, Microsoft, Marvel Studios, Warner Bros Studios, Sass and Bide and David Lawrence, and has produced large-scale public artworks for Wollongong Central and Ambush Gallery (2017), Broadway Shopping Centre (2016). In 2017 Garcia was awarded the Southlands Breakthrough Emerging Artist Award from Penrith Performing and Visual Arts and a Summer Studio Residency with Penrith Regional Gallery. Her work has been featured in 'PATTERNBOX' curated by The Textile Art Centre New York, and published by Princeton Architectural Press.
